Description and Notes
the last song ever written by Stephen C. Foster, composed but a few days previous to his death.
The music, in the Key of E♭, is a vocal solo with piano accompaniment.
The copyright notice is repeated in the lower margin of p.3, but incorrectly: 1664 appears instead of 1864 as the date. Also a "2" is evident underneath the "4", possibly indicating that the song was written as early as 1862. Further evidence along this line is the fact that "Willie Has Gone To The War", c. July 1, 1863, mentions "Beautiful Dreamer" on the title page. At any rate, this is not Foster's last song.
"Clayton"--Colophon.
Price mark 3 in six-pointed star.
First line of text: Beautiful dreamer, wake unto me.
